HRH The Prince of Wales officially opens Devon YFC Rural Hub at Cheriton Bishop

During a recent visit to the South West of England our Patron HRH The Prince of Wales spent time with members of the Devon Young Farmers’ Club when he officially opened its new Rural Hub, the Amory building, on Thursday 20 July.
During the visit he unveiled a plaque to commemorate his visit, tasted the traditional dish of Junket (a dish of sweetened and flavoured curds of milk) and had a go at decorating handmade butter. The building is named after the Amory family who have supported the Devon Federation since 1930.
The Rural Hub has been partly funded by a grant from The Prince’s Countryside Fund, and will provide a meeting place and office space for the network of 38 Young Farmers’ Clubs which operate across the county of Devon. His Royal Highness heard first-hand how the network gives young people in the countryside a chance to meet new people, learn new skills, help the community and take part in an array of competitions. A showcase of activities from sheep shearing and health and safety training, to cheerleading and flower arranging was laid on.
Claire Bellew, Chair of the Devon Federation of Young Farmers’ Club said: “We were honoured to have HRH The Prince of Wales visit us to open The Amory Building here in Cheriton Bishop, and to show The Prince around. It gave us an opportunity to showcase what the YFC does. We purchased this building in 2008 and have spent £60,000 renovating it thanks to Young Farmers’ Clubs raising money, donations, and from trusts and grants.”
