Morrisons Farm-to-Fork visit
August 16, 2018
The Prince’s Countryside Fund was delighted to attend a wonderful Farm-to-Fork visit around Morrisons’ commercial hub in Yorkshire.
Farmers from the year one Settle group in Yorkshire were treated to an enlightening visit, courtesy of Morrisons, who were keen to exhibit their food procurement and production chain all the way from the farm to the plate.
The day began with a tour of Holcombe Moor Farm, which supplies Morrisons, to demonstrate best farming practice. The day continued with a tour of Morrisons own in-house abattoir and meat processing plant in Colne, showing the Farm Resilience Programme members how their produce starts its journey to the supermarket.
After this, our group was treated to a fantastic visit to Morrisons’ processing factory, Farmers Boy in Bradford. We were even more thrilled with the free boxes of produce we all received from thoroughly entertaining Morrisons staff!
To round off the trip the group were finally taken to the Morrisons store where that action happened and many interesting questions were taken on pricing, sources and food accountability.
The Fund was thrilled to see how, with the help of Morrisons, farmers are getting their animals to consumers in a safe way, with fair treatment of their farmers.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Morrisons Charitable Foundation for their invaluable support of The Prince’s Farm Resilience Programme, and to Morrisons for organising this tour.
